Poultry Love

It’s been so long since I posted that I forgot how!  But it is coming back.  I have been doing a little painting over the winter break from school.  I’ve sold several paintings in my re-opened Etsy shop in the last few weeks, that I thought it was time to add some new stock.  I still don’t have much time for painting, but I have this definite need to make.  Yes, I have realized that I am a “maker”.  I just have to make something to keep my sanity.

I finished this little 4″ x 4″ painting today.  Is it a chicken or a rooster?  I am not  really sure– hence the gender neutral title.  It’s obvious I never spent a lot of time around farm animals, but it makes me smile nonetheless.

I’ve also been quilting a little bit making several small quilty things for gifts.  Since I am STILL without my longarm, I had to rent time on a machine at the local quilt shop to get my projects done.  Unfortunately, I didn’t think to take any pictures and now they are all gone!  Well except for a table runner and some placemats that were just for me.  I’ll try to post a picture of them soon (when I get the dining room table cleaned off!)  Things are still a holiday mess around here, and I return to school on Monday!

I did have a wonderful time last weekend with family in Provo, Utah.  My brother and his wife just built a beautiful retirement home that is filled with treasures from their 30 years in the foreign service.  It’s not a downsized home–but one made for  lots of family and especially grandchildren.  There were rooms and beds for 18 of us for the weekend–quite a feat.  The highlight of the weekend was a 1 year olds birthday party for 2 nieces’ children that were born 46 hours apart last Dec 30 and Jan 1.  15 more family members showed up for the birthday party on Saturday.  Highlights included a crawling race (results were highly contested!) and 1 year olds (Ada Kate and Sam) chowing down on their first birthday cake.

I won’t make any promises about when I will post again.  I DO miss all of my blogging friends and hope to make it a higher priority in 2018.

Best Wishes to all of you for a happy, healthy and rewarding new year.

Playing with Color

This little birdie expresses my sentiments exactly.  Just as little time creating at my sewing machine puts me in my happy place–something I haven’t had time to do a lot of lately.love-to-sew-originallogo

As with my last post, I’ve playing with the color on the computer.   The above painting is the original.    Below is the computer enhanced version.  I do kind of like the brighter colors which I can’t seem to create as well with watercolor.   love-to-sew-brightlogo

Which do you like best?

Pom Pot

Got up before dawn this morning to the sound of rain.  Kind of unusual for Las Vegas. After studying for tomorrow’s Sunday School lesson, I was in the mood to paint.  So while listening to a quilting podcast and downing a few Girl Scout cookies ( the lemon ones are surprisingly good!), I got to work.  Life is good.

This little drawing is based on antique needlework patterns.  I added a fabric texture in Ipiccy–don’t know if you can tell.  Though my brushwork is a little messy, I like how it turned out.  And it was much faster than needle-turn applique!pom-pot

Flower Basket

No, no quilting yet.  My machine is still in storage. But I need a creative outlet to de-stress.flower-basket-framed

Flowers do make me happy, but these are a little strange.  I haven’t painted or drawn anything for so long, I don’t feel much like an artist at all.  This is messy.  Watercolors take practice and I am really out of practice.  I feel like I am starting over, and I hope you don’t mind if I share a few things that truthfully, I’m not too happy with.  I’m trying to bring some balance to my life my drawing more, even if it is just doodling.  And I don’t claim to be very original as I do look at Pinterest a lot.  Here is the non painted version.

Maybe I should have left it this way.  Really struggling with colors–but I’ll probably get better if I keep trying.  The only reason I had time to do this was I was home sick with a cold from work today.  Hope my weird creation at least made you smile!

Free Pattern & Tutorial for Patriotic Quilt

The school year is almost over and that means I have more time to quilt!  I woke up Saturday morning with that in mind and this is the result.  For a long time I have wanted to make some quilt projects and offer free patterns and tutorials on my pamsquilting.com website.  Now I finally finished one!  Hey, quilters, let me know if this is helpful.  And if anyone makes a wallhanging like this of your own, I’d love to see a picture!  Hope you are all having a great Memorial Day weekend.  And please check out the USA wall hanging tutorial and let me know what you think.IMG_0394

Sunny Hexies

Oh my!  It’s Spring Break and I can finally think about something other than teaching music for a few days.  I looked at my blog and realized it was stuck in December!  So sorry.  Well, it certainly isn’t cold winter here in sunny Las Vegas today with highs in the mid-80’s.  I needed something bright and fun to post just to get some “Spring” into my blog.  So I searched through my almost finished projects and found these little hexies.  Will it turn into a small pillow or a wall hanging?  Don’t know yet, but I have some ideas.  I’ve tried it out on a couple of different background fabrics just to get my creative juices flowing.   I’ll decide soon what to do and promise not to wait another 3 months to post about it!  Happy Spring!

By the way, I’ve updated my “About Pam” page to reflect a little more of what I am doing these days.

For Unto Us a Child is Born

It was a busy day yesterday, so I am posting 2 today.  The second picture I created in PicMonkey.

May we all remember the true meaning of Christmas.

A Savior was born and still lives for us today!

Happy Christmas to you all and may the true spirit of this season warm your heart  and home with love and peace.
